Alex Katz - Freaking AWESOME American Painter

I love Alex Katz's paintings. They always seem so fresh, like they were just painted. Even when elements within them look dated (like clothing) the vibrant colors make them feel current and crisp. I am also fascinated by how absolutely American they feel. Thoughts?

I apologize for my lack of personal painting posts, I have been busy with other things. I have learned to accept the ebb and flow of my work style. Thanks for checking in!

Also, there is a movie about Mr. Katz and his process. I haven't seen it yet - but I hope to check it out soon.

Hey PJ - I like this Kat too . . . I just happened into huge retrospective of his at the Jewish Museum last winter and was completely blown away ( I originally went there to see a history of American comic illustration (I know, dork--dork)). Anyway, yeah, Al Katz stuff is really cool. I like how flat it is, it very graphic and it usually feels beachy to me. . . Makes me think of 60's-70's California for some reason. I really like all portraits of his wife, she's a fox. keep posting the 'Artist's I Like' section Pam, I think it great. Keep up the good work!

Thanks Brian! I appreciate that. I'll try to be more informative in the future, but I usually just ogle the paintings and say things like I LOOOOOOOOOOVE this! But you have inspired me to do more homework!
