I liked this drawing and format because it looked like the girl is looking in the mirror on her way out the door. Matt thinks it looks exactly like me.
I love this one PJ. It's my favorite piece out of everything that you've posted to date. Please post more soon! Matt's right, this does look more than a bit like you. Then again, I think alot of your female subjects tend to teeter between Pam-like and Dawn-ish. But you're both great lookin gals, so there's no harm in that. Occupation hazard indeed! I keep checking back for portraits that are Proto-Matt, Reni-like, or Quintessential-Kyle, but alas, nothing yet. . . I've seen you do spot on portraits of your dad (Grey Wolf) and brother (albeit in drag). I wonder if your subjects have to be blood-relatives in order for you to capture their likeness? Or are you simply starting at the center and working you way out? (Personally, I can't bring myself to do portraits of friends or realtives until I have enough practice that I am absolutely sure that I won't fuck up. You, however, definately do not have this problem! All of your family portraits are dead-on likenesses deserving of a quality frame and prominent wall space). You've made a lot of progress just in the short time that you've been posting Pam. Keep up the great work!
Wow, thanks Brian! I really appreciate your comments. I want to see some more of your drawings, how is Lou coming along? I've actually done a couple charcoal drawings of Matt and pretty much had him nailed in 30 seconds - it was SCARY. I think anyone you spend a lot of time with, at least for me, is much easier to draw because you spend so much time looking at them without even knowing it. I'd feel much more pressure drawing a picture of a stranger that I'd only met once. As for Matt he generally doesn't want to be 'portrayed' so I haven't posted any pics of him. I've done a picture of Kyle that's pretty decent, but I have never tried Rennie. Mike and my dad are easy because they are SO VAIN.
Lou's done, so feel free to swing by and check him out whenever you get the chance. I plan on adding some more stuff over the weekend, if I get the chance. I suspect that you're right about creating portraits of people you know, but as I said, thus far I am to chicken to try it! As far as drawing people I know - I only ever did two self portraits, neither of which I was very happy with. The second of which was done in a class with Matt and he had his nailed in a heartbeat. Mine, not so much. . . I'd like to see your portraits of Matt and Kyle. I wonder why Flick doesn't want you showing those pictures of him around. Perhaps they're nudes?
Imagined title for one of the Matt pieces: 'Matt Flick (lifting weights with erect penis)' - or, the old art school chestnut, simply 'Untitled'
It's really funny to me that you would describe your dad and brother as vain. . . Gosh, between them and the three girls, it must have been difficult to get in any real bathroom time at the Jones house, right?
Did you have a mirror in your locker back in high school? Did your dad or brother? If you don't know the answer, then you should definately ask them. I think the mirror in the locker is a hallmark of the truely vain, don't you?
